The evaluation of a player’s fitness
within a team is an essential component of success, with
a team being as ‘strong as its weakest link’. Scheduled
fitness testing throughout a season enables players and
coaches to monitor changes to sport specific components
of fitness through physiological assessments.
The evaluation of test performance
enables strengths and weaknesses to be highlighted to
both coaches and players to prescribe team or player
specific training. Seasonal monitoring enables players
to perform at their optimum to support the demands of
the skill and tactical requirements. Players and coaches
receive player feedback through Individual Performance
Portfolio’s which develop throughout a season with
repeat test sessions.

‘We have been working with the Human Performance Unit
for the last ten years. Our players our routinely tested
in the lab and also have their body fat levels measured
throughout the season. The HPU team have an excellent
understanding of the demands of professional football
and the unique challenges it presents.'
Simon Thadani Fitness coach,
Ipswich Town Football Club
‘The HPU has provided us with regular individual
data for youth players aged 12-16. This allows us to
track our players athletic development and highlight
individual strengths and weaknesses. Over the last 2
years we have seen great improvements in our players
athletic development due to the seasonal testing and
support from the HPU. The players really enjoy
getting the individual feedback and working towards
improving and beating their previous results.'
